11/17/25: Greetings to all! We are very glad that Alisa is home and doing well (so far) on the TPN. We are learning from the home health nurse how to get everything hooked up and the 12-hour infusions are going smoothly. Our concern is that the risk of infection is high and we covet your prayers that we can properly manage the line and prevent infection! There is also the concern about the left plural effusion and the small pericardial effusion. She is still experiencing some shortness of breath, but we know that God is in control and He has provided her with a great team of doctors. She has been advised that for the time being, she has to stay away from large crowds, particularly children, as the risk of catching any virus right now could land her back into the hospital. Please pray for patience and contentment for her; She is so ready to get back to church as she misses you all! The song, "I need the prayers of those I love" come to mind. We love and appreciate all of your well wishes, thoughts, and prayers. And we pray for all of you!
11/13/25: We are praising God. Alisa is home now. All of the tests on her heart turned out good. She is on TPN now to help with her nutrition and hydration. Please pray that she can adjust to this and it will help her feel better. Thanks so much for your prayers. God is good.
11/8/25: Greetings to all! The Hickman line was placed this past Wednesday 11/5 at the Center for Care and Discovery and TPN started that evening. During the bag/tubing change on Thursday evening, something went wrong and an air embolism occurred. This is a condition where air bubbles enter the bloodstream and cause respiratory distress (shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing.) This was a serious situation, and the treatment was high-flow oxygen therapy, positioning in the hospital bed and detailed tests to check if the air embolism was still in the lungs. Fortunately, the embolism dissolved with medication and there was no need for surgical intervention. However, the doctors ran a blood test called a High-sensitive troponin level and it was at 200. Repeated blood draws show that the level is coming down but is still significantly elevated. It Is believed that the elevated level came about because of the air embolism. Please pray that the heart ultrasound that is scheduled for either tonight or tomorrow will show little to no damage to the heart muscle. There is also the issue of the TPN causing fluid on the lungs. We also ask for prayers for a smooth transition as the nutrition team start to "cycle down" the TPN to a manageable 12 hours of infusion instead of 24 hours, in anticipation of continuing this nutrition at home.
We appreciate all those who have reached out and have prayed for us and our family. We covet your prayers and ask that God will bless your families also! My nutrition doctor and I were sharing favorite gospel verses (he saw my bible on my bedside table) and this was his: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." ~Proverbs 3:5-6
